Took a break this weekend and didn't really do much Friday or Saturday in regards to the film. Spent today relaxing and watching the Superbowl but did a lot of work to Act III as well as some of Snake's backstory in relation to White Lightning. I think this will be the structure of the film and I don't foresee anymore changes in that regard. There will be a lot of tailoring to dialogue and what not but I'm looking forward to it.

Script Pages: 43

Estimated Runtime: 55 Minutes (lots of dialogue-less action)

SCRIPT IS FINISHED. Well, the first draft at least. Still have a lot of revisions to do, but the fact that I was able to start one and finish it is a testament unto itself. Typically I get about ten pages in and lose focus and/or motivation. This one comes in at a paltry 40 pages (several minutes of screentime dedicated to action which takes up very little script-space)

I'm stoked. This is way ahead of schedule and should make a table read in two weeks incredibly realistic. Go Team!

Ah, the feeling of a great script is a great feeling. Finetuned most of the first act and sent it to Adam who loved it and gave some great insight. Now I'm working on the second act which has gone a direction that delves into White Lightning as a group and more a sum of its parts then the well-oiled machine we're used to.

Pry will be looking at getting a Wide Angle prime soon. Have one on the table for 95 bucks and I'm hesitant. Valentine's Day is coming and I still have some stuff to get for the lovely lady as well as start saving for my post-graduation.

All in all though, this film will rock. Have a DP all but lined up and once I get the draft done we can get a good table read in (hopefully the 21st) and go from there with scheduling and what not.

Crew beginning to shape up

So I went the dreaded route of Craigslist looking for some nibbles particularly for the position of DP and 1st AC. Got several people interested and even one volunteering his services with a Steadicam in hopes of getting some good footage for his reel.

Nothing more encouraging than people looking forward to working on something; especially something as close to my heart as White Lightning. Would hate for something I've been working on for years to come crashing down because someone doesn't know how to effectively pull focus.

That being said it's re-ignited the creative juices and I've been vigorously working on this working script for a few hours. Structure is solid, just need to get everything in order and cohesive.

Week 1: Starting the Script and finding a crew

So since I just registered for this blog I'll recap the trials and tribulations of the first week, which, in hindsight have been pretty minimal. Started the screenplay for White Lightning and I'm hoping that it can fill a niche as well as present likeable characters. Still struggling with some of the dialogue but the overall framework of the script itself is put together nicely I think.

Been advertising for some crew and got a few bites; will have to check that out as time progresses. Despite all the coffee I drank, I still need a nap. School + Work + Preproduction + other commitments is making my final semester a bit overbearing.

Really want to have a working script done by mid-February if for nothing else for the table reads I plan on having. It's imperative that I let the cast get 'into' character rather than starting at the location (a bad tendency I have considering we usually put our films together in a few hours).

It's been an encouraging first week to say the least. I feel like I'm slowly picking up steam in regards to the film and will get with my dad to film a short trailer time permitting today or tomorrow. Should be fun, he's always interesting to work with if for nothing else than the criticism he offers. Hopefully I can convince him to shoot the scene, he tends to rely heavily on an invisible agent that I have to make appointments with in order to 'work' with him.
